Service 01 First Impressions Last a Lifetime

Young Horse Starting Program

Our 90-day foundation program is built around following each horse's lead. Every young horse is a unique individual -- some progress ahead of schedule while others need more time to develop confidence and understanding. The timeline is a framework, not a deadline.

Phase 1

Foundation  |  Days 1 -- 45

  • Ground manners and cross-tie training
  • Lunging with purpose using surcingle
  • Mounting block desensitization
  • Farrier and veterinary preparation
  • Trailer loading and trailering practice
  • Respect and boundary establishment

Phase 2

Under Saddle Introduction  |  Days 46 -- 90

  • First rides on lunge line with ground support
  • Walk work focusing on rhythm and relaxation
  • Introduction to basic aids (leg, seat, and voice)
  • Progressive trot work with balance emphasis
  • Hill work and pole exercises for engagement
  • Trail riding exposure for confidence building

Weekly Structure

  • 5 one-hour training sessions per week
  • 1 field trip per week for new environment exposure
  • Weekly video updates and written progress reports
  • Monthly consultation calls with owner

Ideal For

3 to 5 year old horses, Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, and Sport Horses whose owners are seeking a thorough, unhurried foundation.

What Your Horse Will Know

Upon completing the program, your horse will stand quietly for grooming and tacking, load reliably, respect handler boundaries, and carry a rider at walk and trot with rhythm and relaxation -- ready to continue their education as a safe, thinking partner.

Service 02 Every Horse Deserves a Second Chance

Rehabilitation Programs

Behavioral and physical problems are almost always interconnected. A horse that is explosive, resistant, or shut down is communicating -- and our job is to listen. Through patient, methodical ground retraining, we have transformed horses considered dangerous into supple, adjustable partners their owners are proud to ride.

Behavioral Rehabilitation

Presenting Challenges We Address

  • Explosive or reactive behaviors
  • Bucking, rearing, and bolting
  • Arena or trailer aversion
  • Trust issues from training trauma
  • Confusion from inconsistent or harsh handling

Our Approach

The Path Back to Trust

  • Return to foundation -- no step is beneath any horse
  • Identify whether behavior stems from fear, pain, or confusion
  • Lateral work and focused exercises to build mental engagement
  • Build confidence through small, consistent successes
  • Replace reactive patterns with thoughtful, trained responses

Physical Rehabilitation

Return-to-Work in Partnership with Your Vet

  • Controlled exercise protocols post-injury
  • Targeted muscle development and rebuilding
  • Progressive return-to-work progressions
  • Coordination with bodywork and wellness professionals
  • Long-term soundness management planning

Timeline

Rehabilitation typically spans 60 to 120 days. This process cannot be rushed -- shortcuts in rehabilitation almost always result in relapse. We commit to the full process.

Success Spotlight

Jordan

A Saddlebred x Belgian draft mare who arrived with a history of draw rein use, Amish driving training, and dangerous behaviors that had left her previous handlers injured. Through patient, systematic ground retraining -- starting from the very beginning and never skipping a step -- Jordan was transformed into a supple, adjustable horse who meets her rider with curiosity instead of fear. Her story is a reminder that every horse, given the right environment and communication, wants to say yes.

Service 03 Limited Spaces, Unlimited Care

Boutique Boarding

We intentionally maintain a herd of 6 to 8 horses. That limit is not an accident -- it means every horse in our care receives daily individual attention from someone who knows their quirks, their moods, and their needs. This is not a large training operation where horses blend into the routine. This is a family farm where your horse matters.

Stall Board

Individual stalls with bedding, daily feeding, and structured daily turnout in paddocks or grass fields. Ideal for horses who need more monitoring or who prefer the security of a stall overnight.

Pasture Board

Large grass fields with run-in shelter access. Horses live as naturally as possible with herd socialization and free movement -- excellent for easy keepers and horses who thrive outside.

What's Included

Standard Board

  • Timothy and Coastal hay in slow-feed nets twice daily
  • Grain feeding tailored to each horse's individual needs
  • Daily wellness checks and health monitoring
  • Fresh, clean water troughs maintained throughout the day
  • Blanketing and blanket changes based on weather
  • Basic wound care and medication administration
  • Large grass paddocks and pasture access
  • Full arena and farm facility use

What Makes Frostbite Different

Most facilities are either a pure boarding barn where horses go unhandled for days, or a high-volume training barn where your horse is one of forty. Frostbite Farm is neither. Every horse here receives daily handling, exposure to both English and Western work as appropriate, and the kind of individualized attention that only a boutique operation can offer. You'll always know your horse, and we'll always know yours.

Classical Dressage

Foundation Through Second Level

Planning Ahead

Future Horse Contracts

Secure your foal's future training now.

We are accepting contract reservations for 2026 and 2027 foals. Booking early ensures your young horse has a dedicated space during the most formative months of their development -- and that we have the time to do the job properly. Spaces are strictly limited.
